Physicochemical compatibility of pentoxifylline injection with high‐concentration parenteral medications

چکیده

Pentoxifylline (PTX) is reported to provide beneficial outcomes in the treatment of neonatal sepsis and serious inflammatory conditions.1, 2 In intensive care setting, PTX administered by intravenous (IV) infusion routinely co-administered via Y-site with other parenteral medications and/or fluids. Although physicochemical compatibility a range drugs, IV fluids, lipid-free nutrition solutions has been reported, there an emerging demand for more data against previously untested (ampicillin, cloxacillin, fentanyl, fluconazole, furosemide, hydrocortisone, ibuprofen lysine) high-concentration drugs (alprostadil, dopamine, epinephrine, midazolam, milrinone, morphine, norepinephrine) which may be used fluid-restricted, vulnerable patients.3-5 order address this requirement contemporary information, we investigated physical chemical panel 20 51 PTX-drug combinations. All vials were gently mixed inspected at 5, 15, 60 min compatibility. Chemical all drug mixtures was determined on basis concentration ratio plus test reference solution. Visual observation testing also occurred hours 10 (22 combinations) highest or if prolonged mixing clinical setting plausible. The mean peak areas 95% confidence interval (CI) calculated using limits from two-sided t-test (α = 0.05; SigmaPlot v14.5; Systat Software, San Jose, CA). Further details method are provided File S1. No precipitation, color change, turbidity observed any mixtures, indicating physically compatible drugs. This finding consistent previous reports context our data, reflects importance determining both combinations, irrespective mode administration.3, 4 shown Table 1. Compatibility of intravenous medications with parenteral nutrition: in vitro evaluation.

BACKGROUND AND AIM Hospitalized patients requiring parenteral nutrition (PN) often need to receive intravenous (IV) medications as well. Y-site administration is occasionally necessary, but physicochemical incompatibilities can occur between the medications and PN. The aim of the present study was to assess the physical compatibility between 25 frequently coadministered IV medications and a com...

Compatibility: drugs and parenteral nutrition

OBJECTIVE Standardization and systematization of data to provide quick access to compatibility of leading injectable drugs used in hospitals for parenteral nutrition. METHODS We selected 55 injectable drugs analyzed individually with two types of parenteral nutrition: 2-in-1 and 3-in-1. The following variables were considered: active ingredient, compatibility of drugs with the parenteral nutr...

Physicochemical stability and compatibility testing of levetiracetam in all-in-one parenteral nutrition admixtures in daily practice.

BACKGROUND Parenteral antiepileptic drugs are frequently used in critically ill patients for seizure control therapy or prevention. Many of these patients require additional parenteral nutrition (PN). Therefore, a parallel infusion of the frequently used antiepileptic drug levetiracetam (LEV) is interesting in terms of the restricted i.v. lines (e.g., neonates). The potential interactions of th...

Compatibility of tramadol hydrochloride injection with selected drugs and solutions.

T ramadol hydrochloride is a centrally acting synthetic analgesic with a dual mechanism of action. Tramadol and its Odesmethyl metabolite (M1) bind to opioid receptors, with M1 having a 200-fold higher affinity for binding to these receptors. Tramadol has also been shown to inhibit the uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, suggesting that its antinociceptive activity is mediated by both opioi...
